Background
The human immunodeficiency virus is about 120 nanometers in diameter and is roughly spherical. The outer membrane of the virus is a lipid envelope, which comes from the host cell and is embedded with the proteins gp120 and gp41 of the virus. Gp41 is a transmembrane protein, gp120 is located on the surface and binds to gp41 through non-covalent action. Inwards, the spherical Matrix formed by protein p17 and Capsid formed by protein p24 show high electron density under electron microscopy. The capsid contains the RNA genome of the virus, enzymes (reverse transcriptase, integrase, protease), and other components from the host cell (such as tRNAlys3, which ACTS as a primer for reverse transcription).
Clinical Significance
The laboratory test of AIDS mainly includes HIV antibody, HIV nucleic acid, CD4+T lymphocyte and HIV genotype resistance test. HIV1/2 antibody test is the gold standard for the diagnosis of HIV infection. HIV nucleic acid quantitative (viral load) test and CD4+T lymphocyte count are two important indicators to judge the disease progression, clinical medication, efficacy and prognosis. HIV genotype resistance testing can provide scientific guidance for the selection and replacement of highly effective antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimens.
