Rotavirus
Rotavirus antibody raw material for immunoassay development, reagent screening and rapid-test optimization. Source: Mouse; application: Rotavirus Infection / Viral Gastroenteritis.
Background
Rotavirus is a double-stranded ribonucleic acid virus, which belongs to the reovirus family. It is the single leading cause of diarrhea in infants and young children, and almost every child in the world around the age of five has been infected with rotavirus at least once. However, adults are rarely affected by each infection as the body's immunity gradually increases and the effects of subsequent infections diminish.
Clinical Significance
The diagnosis of rotavirus infection usually follows the diagnosis of gastroenteritis with severe diarrhea. Most of the children admitted to the hospital with gastroenteritis have been tested for rotavirus A. The specific diagnostic method for rotavirus A infection is to use enzyme immunoassay to identify the virus in the stool of the patient.
